The Swan Fountain, by the famous sculptor Calder. The three mythological figures represent the three rivers of Philadelphia: the Delaware, the Schuykill, and the Wissahickon.

Wow what a comment.
I really appreciate the fact that my images speak to you.
It's a great complement when someone feels something when they see your work.

What I liked best was how the play of light gave this such a dramatic effect. I have learned with black and whites, your subject has a lot to do with how well the shot turns out. It was such a strong composition that the b/w really worked here. Keep up the great work! I hope to get myself an actual DSLR as all of what I have done so far is with my little Canon G9. It is not bad for a p&s as it has many manual features, but it doesn't come close to the SLR cameras.

I totally agree with the the subject being very important in black & white photos.
I thought you might like to see this-[link]
It's hanging on my wall but will be displayed soon at a gala here in Philadelphia.

Yes Dslr's make things easier to shoot, but keep practicing with your camera. Your shots really look good.
I started with a disposable camera. it's all I could afford. And this is what happened-

It's not to brag, but I am a firm believer that the image comes from you, not your equipment.
You have a great eye.

Thank you for your compliment. It means the world to me. I still am very critical of my work as I don't post everything I shoot. I only post what feel is artistic in my eyes. I got a real chuckle from one of the members on this site asking me if one of my photos was of a phone cord. My eye stared at it, I liked what I saw, composed it in my mind and captured it. As corny as it seemed, the shot worked for me.

I guess you are right. Someone can know all the technical stuff when it comes to cameras, but it is all about how you compose the shot that makes a great picture. It is being able to see what others don't that makes a big difference.

I appreciate all your feedback, it helps me so much to know when I am doing well and also how I can improve. Your work definitely is inspiring me to do better with each of my compositions. Thanks!

Heh heh, now I have the Fresh Prince of Bel Air lyrics stuck in my head. =D
"In west Philadelphia, born and raised
on the playground is where I spend most of my days
chillin' out, maxin', relaxin', all cool and all
shootin' some b-ball outside of the school"

This is a lovely photo, the fountain really "pops" out at you. Love the B&W!
=D
